Thank You Ne-Yo

My brother Logan who works security in Atlanta did a VIP detail for Ne-Yo, a famous singer, also from A-town. One og my 2nd year students has N mania. She likes Ne-Yo and Nelly. Of course since I'm from St Louis and also rep the ATL, I'm one of her favorite teachers... So when my bro told me about his detail, I asked if he could do me a solid and get this for my student. Thanx to my bro and his supremely vivacious wife (best sister in the world!) I was able to give the autograph to my student in class today.
She burst into tears of joy, and now every kid wants me to get them some famous person's in America autograph.

Paul Pierce, hook me up man! One of my kids is a HUGE fan over here--wears your jersey under his warmups all the time.

Nelly-- hook a bro from the Lou up man-- these Japanese kids LOVE hip-hop and you get mad play over here.

Ludacris! Just 'cause people keep saying I look like you, you gotta get it in there too man.

Send some to these Japanese kids and know your fans are worldwide, dig?

All my ATLiens, and Derrrtys from the Lou wanna know whats up with this city called Nagoya I happen to be in... They've heard of Tokyo, and maybe even Osaka... But Nag-Town ain't even on the map... Even with it's 5 million living in Aichi Prefecture, 2.3 million in the city limits... At least my pops knew this is where Toyota is based...
This is where I stay right now. The N. Nag dayo.
...Not exactly as fire as the ATL in some ways, but it's still fly in its own way...

So sit back and relax as Man tells y'all about the city you've never heard of in Japan.
After 2 years and some change here... Well I know all the streets in this video, and take both those subways everyday... You might squint towards the end and see me maybe....maybe not. But it wouldn't surprise me.

OK, so I'm guilty of thinking that Japanese girls wearing sailor suit school uniforms, running along the Japanese streetscape are cute...
Whatever lolita complex claims you have against me aside, this is a catchy tune about summertime from the Nagoya branch of AKB48, called SKE48.

SKE48 is an all-female Japanese theater/idol group produced by Yasushi Akimoto. The audition was held during the summer and debuted in October 2008. SKE48 performs in the newly built studio in the renovated Sunshine Sakae in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, every Saturday. The first SKE48 stage was a revival of Team A's Party ga Hajimaru yo.
Akimoto was offered the chance to start a production in Nagoya along with the renewal of the Sunshine Sakae, when he was thinking of making his "48 project" a nationwide project. He had a couple of offers even from outside of Japan, so he decided to use Nagoya as the place to move on with the project. Akimoto has said that selected members from both AKB48 and SKE48 may release a single, rather than releasing two different singles.^[1] But they released their first single in 2009.

Before you start flaming me, remember what it was like to be in high school yourself?  I was the only one of my friends with a car and not-so-strict parents, so I could hang out even on a school night...  But my friends usually couldn't, and ESPECIALLY girls I was dating, so I ended up going home early anyway...  Again Japanese teenagers are just like teens everywhere else--in a hurry to be adults. What I didn't understand then though is that becoming an adult meant more crap I gotta do...  I wish I was a damn teenager or younger again now!!

AKB48 is an all-female Japanese theater/idol group produced by Yasushi Akimoto. Unlike other idol groups in Japan, AKB48 is theater-based and have their own theater in Akihabara (a district in Tokyo) where they perform once every weekday, and more than once on both Saturday and Sunday. The theater is set up on the 8th floor of Don Quijote. Some of the title songs released as a single have been made a tie-in song for a television show or a television advertisement. The name derives from a shortened, Romanized representation of 'Akihabara'.
AKB48 is divided into three teams: Team A, Team K and Team B. Currently, there are 16 members in Team A, 16 members in Team K, and 16 members in Team B, getting to the total of 48 members in AKB48. Minami Takahashi is the captain of Team A, Sayaka Akimoto is the captain of Team K, and Yuki Kashiwagi is the captain of Team B.

Misfit's open mic Mondays

 

Yup, Nagoya's smallest gaijin bar is big on partying every Monday. If you can play an instrument, sing, good at drinking, talking, and eating, or at least 2 of the above, get your tail over there and check the action.

Stevie P cooks something good up to eat (we had a ¥1000 steak dinner last night yo!) and Mike Wade tends bar between their turn on the mic.

I have a blast with these guys, even though I have the musical talent of a three-toed sloth on heroin...

Chris Brown Twitter Account Deleted After Rant Against Retailers

As you may know, singer Chris Brown recently released his “comeback” album, the culmination of his ongoing attempt to rebuild his image.

While part of that effort included a song dedicated to Twitter, the singer has just gone in the opposite direction when it comes to the microblogging service: account deletion.

Brown raised some eyebrows over the weekend by using his TwitterTwitter account to claim that retailers were blackballing him and not giving his album proper shelf space in stores. Much of the entertainment press drilled him over it, and now his account is gone.

Of course, while it might be gone from the public eye, the controversial tweets live on in GoogleGoogle’s cache:

Given the delicate nature of Brown’s situation, it’s hard to imagine his actions drawing much sympathy from fans and followers, though the deletion has certainly gotten him plenty of attention, with his name quickly rising to Twitter’s trending topics.

Bump n Grind... At Coco Ichiban?!

So I sit down to a hot bowl of curry soup and rice at the local Coco 壱番屋, a large chain of restaraunts in Japan where the specialty is curry and rice with whatever you want on it. I love curry so I end up here maybe once a week. This particular one here in Motoyama always has some old '90s urban playlist on the PA system though. Last week they played Kriss Kross AND Tevin Campbell... Today, a lil' R Kelly. Wonder if Kells is seein some royalty paper from the airtime he gets over here... And more importantly, I more Japanese people knew English, there's no way they'd play this in public.
