4 random things I saw while shopping...
1. Japanese people loves them some liquor.. I've never seen 4 liter bottles of whisky fornsalenat a supermarket before coming here. 2. Tiny-ass dogs can go wherever their owners go. Including this cafe I happened to be in, enjoying lunch. 3. People in Japan will hold on to something forever, and keep it it in mint condition. Take this casio databank watch. I had one of these when u was 10! This one is about 19 years old, and costs more than it did new! 4. Found some vignette filter thingie that goes over cameraphones here to make a shot like this. No ine in the states takes cameraphone photography seriously like the Japanese...

Bump n Grind... At Coco Ichiban?!
So I sit down to a hot bowl of curry soup and rice at the local Coco 壱番屋, a large chain of restaraunts in Japan where the specialty is curry and rice with whatever you want on it. I love curry so I end up here maybe once a week. This particular one here in Motoyama always has some old '90s urban playlist on the PA system though. Last week they played Kriss Kross AND Tevin Campbell... Today, a lil' R Kelly. Wonder if Kells is seein some royalty paper from the airtime he gets over here... And more importantly, I more Japanese people knew English, there's no way they'd play this in public.

NAGOYA--A cram school head was arrested after police discovered cannabis plants growing on the rooftop of his school in Kita-Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture.
Kazuomi Fujiwara, 37, who taught English and social studies, admitted growing six cannabis plants inside a plastic wardrobe on the rooftop of the Nodajuku chain's Nishiharu school, police said.
Fujiwara was quoted by police as saying he chose the spot because it was sunny and hidden from view. The juku has about 130 students.
He began smoking pot in high school and had grown cannabis for his personal use at the school since last summer, police said.(IHT/Asahi: June 10,2009)

I wander through a fancy neighborhood in Nagoya trying to figure out where the hell I am so I can see my new apartment... Without much luck I might add...
After wandering the surrounding area for almost an hour, I asked an old man where it was, and he gave me some extremely precise directions-- "go that way, take a left then a right then another right, you can't miss it." Actually he was right! I didn't miss it!

I felt my first earthquake in Japan...
At 12:24am local time here in Nagoya, I felt my first quake... Here. I grew up in Los Angeles, so I KNOW what bad quakes feel like, along with small tremors. This was a small tremor. about a 2.3 on the Richter Scale. I live near the 2nd dot to the east of the X for refrence. (The X of course being the epicenter.) So I was sitting here chatting with my sis-in-law on GTalk and I felt something like a heavy truck or train was passing the building along with a low rumble noise that got worse over 10 seconds, then suddenly cut off. Even though there are workers outside working on building a new elevated highway in the median of my street outside and there's noise, there's no sensation way up here on the 6th floor-- and my senses just told me "that's a damn quake man." Yeah, but a damn small one. If I were asleep (and I SHOULD be) I wouldn't have woken up. But still, another milestone passed here in Nippon...

A few thoughts at random...
Taking public transportation here is like riding in a limo sometimes back home. The buses run on time ALL the time, and inside is nice, clean and quiet as a church mouse! subways and trains are the same-- most of the time I end up being the loud one, if I happen to get on the train with a few friends and we're talking a bit. The second biggest train station in Nagoya is Kanayama station, and its either a 10 minute walk or a 2~3 minute bike ride from my pad (yep, I bought a used bike when I got here-- EVERYONE rides bikes to get around their neighborhood, and it's as important as owning a car is in Atlanta.)
Tonight after work I'm going to the public bath... its more like a huge spa, but for about $6 you can relax in the hot water and unwind and drink a beer or two. As you know, I don't mind being nekkid in front of other folks so it's all good. Wildly enough, I end up meeting the coolest people at sentos (public baths) and onsens (hot springs) After that, I need to go and buy a small room heater-- it's chilly as hell now, and my apartment has NO insulation around the big huge balcony sliding door that makes up one side of my room.

This is an experiment of sorts to try to tie together my online identity and my offline personality. I've made plenty of business oriented sites, but I have never actually put together one for myself personally... With the advent of social networking sites like Facebook and Myspace along with blog sites like Blogger and Twitter, I find that I have cut a wide swath here in the internet, in terms of being actively online, but there isn't one place to really tie that information together. So this will be an attempt at doing so.
